UOT has all the traditional pets as well as a few special ones that can grow into higher forms.

Drow Dragons:The evil Drow elves of Heartwood (found north of Papua) are the keepers of guardian dragons (the Golds and the Blacks). These dragons when killed have a chance to drop an egg from which you can get an auto bonded dragon that can 'evolve' into higher forms. The eggs cannot be hatched for 24 hours.

Humanoid Followers:While Humanoid followers are not quite as strong as a Drow Dragon, they do have advantages:
- They do not require any Taming skill to control
- You can have two Mercenaries running at the same time (if you have the slots)
- They can be equipped with weapons/armor that they use effectively when fighting
Mercenaries:Amairgen's story is revealed in Tomes kept by the farm wife Goein in a Yew farmhouse. This story and her worries lead you on a quest which could result in a contract for a Mercenary follower.
