This is a reminder (something I forgot myself) . . .
As indicated by UOGuide.com and UO Stratics . . the weapon property "Use Best Weapon Skill" does not apply to the Archery skill. Instead it forces weapons (including bows) to use the best Melee fighting skill (which excludes the archery skill).
You need a Fencing or Macing or Swords skill to see any positive results from a weapon with the property "Use Best weapon Skill". If your only fighting skill is Archery (zero or low Fencing, Macing or Swords) then there is no point fighting with any weapon that has the "Use Best weapon Skill" property.
Legendary Archers (120 skill) who have zero or low Fencing, Macing or Swords and try using a Bow with the property "Use Best weapon Skill" will see very poor results. If they do have Fencing, Macing or Swords then the bow will use the highest of those and not use the 120 Archery skill.
So . . .
1) You may want to reconsider using weapons with the property "Use Best weapon Skill" unless you have good Fencing, Macing or Swords skills.
2) You can remove the property "Use Best weapon Skill" by using a Disenchantment Stone obtained from the Disenchantment Quest. If you cannot get one perhaps someone you know will have one of these Stones.
This is the way of UO and the way of our world as well.
