Hi every one! I haven't played UO for many, many years. I ran a POL shard in the 2000's (Minax), but recently found this one. I love it so far.
Am I missing something in the Geologist quest? I've killed dozens of those rats and can't find the guy's ingots.
Really like the shard so far. It looks like our admin took quite the Herculean effort to create a vastly customized shard. Great work!

Welcome to the shard :3 The amount of custom work on the shard really is amazing.
I think the rats are automatically spawned in the housing rooms within the cave, but they won't appear unless you've picked up the quest from the Geologist. They will be colored giant rats (unsure on name), each colored after the colored piece of 'ore' it carries, which it will drop to the ground when it is slain.
My only thought is you bugged/failed the quest somehow. Once the quest is off delay, try picking it up again, and once you close the accept the quest through the gump, maybe avoid talking to the NPC until you have all three ores in your backpack.

If you are referring to Munro's request to get his ore Samples . . you will find three giant rats inside the little rooms half way through the cave. The three rats are colored the same as the Ore Sample they carry. When you kill one of these they drop the Ore Sample on the floor.
If you accept the quest then go AFK for too long a period you may lose the quest and have to wait for the 'cool down' period to lapse before repeating it. I think the cool down on that one is now 3 hours (was 6 hours).

Ah yes! That sounds like the problem. I took the quest, needed to attend to some other business, logged off and came back a day later and tried to complete it. I didn't realize it was on a cooldown/timer.
I'll try again. Thanks for the help!
