I've been playing the server for a week... This is what it feels like to me.
1, The biggest issue i encountered is, that monsters are too strong.. Not a single monster especially, but all in general. I played a lot of servers and i never seen monsters hit so hard as here... My warrior with 120HP, 110STAM / 100 Sword, Tactics, Parry, Anatomy, Arms Lore, Resist spells / can't stand against 2 ordinary Liches... I don't have any fancy equipment, but i really don't expect a trained character to get ass kicked by some low-mid monsters.. I even had to run from a Stone Harpy or 3 Gazers in Covetous... Not to mention that STAM is running down like crazy and i can't even run away then.... I tried few more characters - Mage and Tamer (100% LRC suit for training and play would be nice from some kind of easy quest).. both of them are going down on like 2-3 hits from anything (both of them around 100HP) How am i supposed to kill dragons, do hard quests or even a champ spawn? Even if i'd survive the mobs with my HP .. im totaly screwd by stamina.
2, All items Unidentified. Whats the reason behind this? Forcing every single character to have an Item ID? ...
3, I like the approach from our owner here.. He is online pretty much every day and been very helpful and kind =) 4, The starting area is fun and helpfull place.. I really like the taming, sick horse and resist training ideas =)
At this point, the game in unplayable for me.. I simply refuse to end up grinding skeletons with my trained char and hoping for some bad-ass artifact that will help me kill anything stronger (if some item like that even exists and might drop)
Please don't take this as some kind of complain, but more like a feedback. Im glad there are "hard-ish" servers to play... But along with very low population, this server is maybe too hard.
I wish you a nice day everyone! =)

Well sir I thank you for trying out our server and can agree with you that this server is unique. Very challenging and full of differences, but I hope you continue to play! I have been working on my characters off and on for going on 7 months. I wont say that I have not had moments where I thought that it was not worth the struggle. I even took some time off and played on another server for a few weeks here and there. The thing of it was i felt that compared to this server everything was way to easy. This server is hard enough that if i achieve something i can celebrate with my head high where as on another server i could solo my champ spawn get my PS's and still feel like i didn't have to try super hard.
The shard is hard and i wont try and change your mind on that and am very glad you gave us a week. But its worth it. I wish you the best and understand where you are coming from and hope you will return some day!
safe travels and happy hunting!
Sincerely, Reuvas, Strast,

I've been playing the server for a week... This is what it feels like to me. 1, The biggest issue i encountered is, that monsters are too strong . . . . 2, All items Unidentified. Whats the reason behind this? . . . . 3, . . . . 4, . . . . Hi Sargoth, I appreciate the feed back and want you to know that your comments are not taken as anything but constructive criticism which I always welcome. I will try to address some of your points and hope the information is helpful. Regardless I want you to know that I value every player who shares my addiction to the UO gaming environment. Okay . . (hope the following answers are not too lengthy): 1) Normal monsters here are no stronger or weaker than OSI. Their scripts come right out of the RunUO box and have not been altered. I cannot say what other shard owners may have done to make them easier. The custom monsters involved in quests certainly may have tweaks, abilities and other surprises. If you are venturing on the facet of Tartarus then all creature bets are off. Tartarus is a primordial world intended to offer better reward in return for much greater risk. I did not spawn that facet and many of the spawners there create hard monsters in soft bodies (you may see an orc without knowing a dragon lurks under its' skin). As a newer player - have you tried the Arete Island gauntlet inside the little cave by the melee training area? With your skill set you should be able to handle the monsters in there and as a reward obtain some reasonable starter armor. After that you could venture in the upper levels of Shame or Despise to improve your skills and gather gold. 2) Items drop 'Unindentified' for a couple of reasons . . . to make the Item ID skill worthwhile . . . to make ID wands worthwhile . . . to support crafters who make ID wands and make scrolls to recharge ID wands. If you identify an item then the NPC vendors will pay you more for it. With 1200 skill cap players can easily put Item ID skill on one or more of their six characters. NOTE: Items that are crafted are automatically set to 'Identified'. Also we have tried hard to make all peripheral skills like ItemID more valuable Generally . . I began scripting this shard over five years ago (two years before opening it). Being retired I have been able to put over 5 hours every day into the project (To date . . almost 10,000 hours and counting). Since opening I have been around almost every day. While I spend most of my time on the Test Server working on new scripts . . I do drop in to watch what people are up to and to welcome new citizens. When this shard was first conceived we began by building things around Crafters. Since then we have done many things to support crafting and make it an important and viable part of our world. If a player seeks the best equipment then they need to find or build a crafter because crafters make the best items or can enhance drops making those even better. Over the past three years here I have witnessed many players soloing everything here. They have obtained very nice equipment but they have also developed good skills and great battle tactics. I am sorry you have experienced frustrations. That is honestly the last thing I want anyone to go through (after all . . it is a game). On the other hand I want to present challenges to people so they do not become bored melting their way through 'Monsters'. I do want players to get the rewards but I want them to feel like they had risk to do it. That is another reason why I do not sell items to players for money like most shards do. Finally do not rule out venturing in a group. Yes . . our population fluctuates up and down depending on real life, school or holiday seasons but inspite of that we do have good people who play a lot or drop in from time to time. Voting will help us grow more. I try to be available to players (as much as my life and wife allow *smiles*) and I really appreciate your comments. This shard is and will always be a player driven shard so give us a good try and don't be shy about sharing your ideas with us. I hope you can find a home here and I hope some of this makes sense. Cheers

Thank you guys for taking your time to read this and answering... =) I appreciate your ideas and points you made.. I'll try the gauntlet and give it another try, because i really like your approach Amairgen to the server construction and running it. Not only you've put a lot of work in it, but we can all see, that you are doing it because of the love for the game and not for money (as most other servers) =)
To explain a bit why i made this comment. Im more of a casual player.. Ultima for me is like a place to relax. You know, the lovely music, crafting and role-play..Maybe thats why i didn't expect any bigger challange from monsters i know over the years of playing Ultima.. If you say the monster strenght (speaking of Trammel) is OSI-like.. i must had a really bad luck when i was trying to tame a Dragon for me.. With 100 music/100 peace i peaced him for my 6th time (according to OSI i should have 60% chance) and then tried to tame him.. I expected that to take few tries yeah, but i didn't expect that the Dragon will remain peaced and harmless for like 15 seconds.. I was used for like 30-45 sec... Well, few deaths trying to tame him and i simply rage-quit the game :-D
Anyway, i'll try the gauntlet, prepare myself a bit more and give it another try =) ... And of course vote meanwhile, this server deserves more players, cause it looks really good =)
Wish you guys a great day! =)

See for me, I have to say mechanically, and support wise this is one of the best servers I've ever played. There is so much diversity in the crafting system, the quests work so well, and are so flawlessly scripted they almost never glitch or act differently. I played here a year ago, and really enjoyed it but I had forgotten just how thoroughly, and painstakingly this server has been developed. Amairgen is also always willing to listen to what the player base has to say, and improves things when he feels the improvements make sense, or the player suggesting them can explain the benefit.. The low population at the moment is a bit of a downer, but the key to that is that we all must vote, and make an effort to reach out to new players to try and make them feel welcomed and help them out when they run into issues; The only other thing that might help was a WIKI, I know for me, I had figured out a great deal about the crafting system last time I played (With Forge's help) this time I'm trying to remember how things worked, and what I needed to do what.. For a new player I can see that may represent a challenge. It's a tough one, a WIKI can easily become a step by step guide to doing everything and what makes this shard so unique is it brings back the original mystique of 'discovery' that ultima had in the early days.. That's not something I'd like to see go away either.. All in all, Big thumbs up
