I've been away from the game for awhile and don't know much about Bushido but I'm starting to wonder if that might be a better skill for me to have than parry. My char is a lumberjack/ archer that doesn't really use a shield all that much, so thinking that parry won't do me much good. Bushido on the other hand is parrying for two handed weapons and although I don't like the special moves all that much it might be better for me. Any input on this would help a lot

you need parry AND bushido to be able to parry with 2 handed weapons

Ahh ok. Didn't know about that. Is bushido worth the skill points since I have to learn parry as well or should I just not bother with either and use the points elsewhere?

i'd personally take bushido and parry as any melee warrior or if you're an archer bushido without parry. for a melee the 3 bushido stances (confidence, evasion and counter-attack) are all very strong and have their different uses. i'd definitely suggest using 200-240 (depending on power scroll availability) points on bushido and parry because they're that good together.
examples warrior with 100 parry and no shield has a 17% chance to block with a 1h or 2h warrior with 100 parry WITH shield has a 30% chance to block (obviously cant use 2h with shield) warrior with 100 parry AND bushido has a 5% chance to block with a shield, 25% chance to block with 1h and no shield or a 29% chance to block with a 2h warrior with 120 parry has a 35% chance to block with a shield warrior with 120 parry AND 120 bushido has a 35% chance to block with a 1h and no shield and a 40% chance to block with a 2h
so at the highest level of bushido and parry you will have an equal or higher chance to block without a shield than you would with only 120 parry while using a shield
bushido also offers a significant damage and luck bonus against a target if you HONOR it by using a macro or by clicking the star above your paperdoll dbl-clicking honor and targeting a monster (up to 100% damage bonus and 1000 luck) you must keep hitting the target to keep the bonus up and misses will lower your damage and luck bonus (will never drop below 0%)
hope this helps out

I am going to reply to this old post here for one consideration that was not discussed in the initial thread.
While, yes, all of this is true and very accurately depicted, the other part of this decision is that using parry with a shield offers another item with magic properties and bonuses that add to the overall abilities of your toon. Using a 2-h weapon with parry and bushido does offer additional defenses, but you need to weigh this additional defense to the properties/skills/abilities offered by a good 1h weapon and a shield with considerable properties.
Something to consider with the above discussion.

Yes a shield can add much needed props, but for sake of discussing shield as optional props trade off... Best defence is bushido and 2 handed weapon. Shield + parry only = good, Shield with parry + busido worse than parry shield alone. That being said, if you want to use shield with Bushido for extra props, then first have defence chance increase to offset the negative parry chance with shield.
Though if your Bushido template is correct, should have max resists/hci/dci/ssi/di/dex/int/str/ as much stamina and mana as well as regen as possible. 120 bushido, 120 parry, 120 tactics, 120 weapon of choice. with these stats you are pretty much good to go with whatever you would like to use, however chance to parry will still be higher with 2 handed weapon vs shield using bushido. with this template you have 720 skill points to refine your template as you like.
