Resisting spells

Reading uoguide I've found this on Resisting spells page:
" While the name, Resisting Spells, suggests that it helps with resisting all spells, this is not the case. This skill helps you lessen the severity of spells that lower your stats or ones that last for a specific duration of time. It does not prevent direct-damage spells, like Energy Bolt or Flamestrike."

Is it true? So Resisting spells is just useful for reducing effects of paralize,poison or curse (and some minor others).. If so, i can consider to remove it from my templates .

This appears to be the case at least for me. So it does beg a very huge question. How do we stop getting hit for 70hp by flame strike from most caster creatures here? Magic appears to completely ignore my resists which I have maxed and it hurts. I am near 150hp, full resists, full magic resist and I still got 1 hit killed yesterday. So what am I doing wrong? I have also been using bushido's evade and confidence. I have some DCI, can't remember how much.

What was it the one hit killed you and were you at full health (150) when that happened?

It was a large succubus, a boss from the king's preserve quest, if I wasn't, I was near full 95% health, she may have hit me two times very quickly but one moment I was standing the next I was dead. It was very quick. I wouldn't mind so much if I just had someway to avoid getting hit so hard. Half the time it feels like the resists are useless. So I ask again, what I am I missing? I would much rather build my char better than nerf the monster.

I was often instant killed by the third vampire from the vamp quest, also in full health (183hp), and with 70 fire res, 100 magic resist skill.. Even if under magic mirror buff (what this spell do here?)
