In older days Arcane gems were simply used to add Arcane Charges to:
- Cloaks
- Leaf Gloves
- Leather Gloves
- Robes
- Thigh Boots
Those Arcane Charges did nothing more than to allow Mages and Necromancers to cast spells without reagents while the charges lasted.
However, the abundance of equipment holding the Lower Reagent Cost (LRC) property caused the Arcane Gems and items with Arcane Charges to become of little value.
Well . . Today that has changed. We just made Arcane Gems worth collecting and using again.
Yes . . . Arcane Gems will still add Charges that can be used to cast spells without reagents but they will also add important Mage Properties to the above Arcane equipment.
When spells are cast the charges get used up and eventually the items lose their Arcane Mage properties. To solve this . . collect and carry extra Arcane Gems to add Mage related properties back onto the items.
Arcane Gems can drop in T-Map Chests, Jukas (Mages Lords and Warriors) and on Exodus Overseers, Controllers and Minions as well as Golem Controllers. They have a chance to drop up to 10 at a time on harder mobs.
Note:
1) There are numerous Mage related properties and when the Gems are used they add some (not all) to an item. You can apply the Gems repeatedly to items until you have the combination of properties and values you want.
2) If the Gems are added by a Legendary Tailor the item will have more charges.

UPDATE (Wednesday Aug 25, 2021)
Okay . . here are the latest changes to Arcane Gems:
1) Legendary Tailors will now use the first Gem to set the Arcane Charges to 100 and then use subsequent Gems to add and or adjust the random properties available. As long as the item's charges are at maximum (100) the Tailor can continue changing the properties. If the item has less than the maximum 100 charges then using a Gem will only refresh the charges (not change the properties).
2)Citizens who are not legendary Tailors can only use the Gems to refresh the item charges (not change properties). When they use a Gem for this purpose it will add 25 charges per Gem used until the item is back to full charge (100).

UPDATE (Friday Aug 27, 2021)
1) If you use an Arcane Gem on an arcane item then change its 'Hue' . . it will lose charges when you cast spells like all unhued ones. *thanks to Bran for finding this bug*
2) Arcane Gems can now add the Spell Damage property to exceptional crafter made Cloaks.
Cheers
