Hey,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows the maximum skill I can gain my fishing from fishing off the shores of Arete?
All the guides i've seen say I need to be in deep water above 80 (i think) but i'm already 80.3 - I was wondering if because it's a custom area if it doesn't count as close-shore type water. It's also based in Malas which i'm pretty sure there's no where to fish usually?
Gratzi!

Hello!
Well done you for getting 80+ from the shores of Arete! My treasure hunter got jack of the very slow gains around the 50-55 mark so she bought a boat *grins* Mind you, gains around the 85+ mark from a boat in deep water is now nauseatingly slow but I digress . . . .
I am, therefore, unable to say what the maximum might be from shore. If you're still gaining, I say keep at it and see what happens

Hey! Thanks for your response! It's nice to know i'm not alone with the trials & tribulations of fishing! It's actually been relatively easy so far to be honest. I have macro set so I just fish at one spot & then run 8 steps south to another spot when there are no fish biting & have just had it running while i am studying - I need to keep a close eye though as 1. obviously can't afk resource gather & 2. All these shoes & boots are dang heavy! & 3. there's limited shoreline so i have to manually move every few 5-10 minutes or so at a maximum. But as of that it's been relatively painless. Currently at 82.4 so will keep this updated when i stop getting gains. They have slowed down massively at this point but all those fish steaks will help me raising cooking anyway so i can't complain. I would try the boat gains in the deep water but i'm scared of what i might fish up I think around 85 I will actively fish for treasure as opposed to just for skill gains.

Currently at 86.2 from fishing off the shore of Arete. Very slow but manageable if you have the time to commit to it.
Going from 50 fishing to 86.2 I've also managed to accumulate 11k fish steaks for training cooking, so a decent run of it. Will eventually try to go for gm but for now i'm taking a time out.

Great going! And yes, all those fish steaks will be put to good use if you're also learning cooking :-)
I would be less worried about what you fish up (easily manageable with a ranged weapon and/or magery) than encountering those dastardly pirates on the high seas *big grin*
The intoxicating fun of treasure hunting makes it all worth while though
Have fun out there! :-)

Update: at around 90, the fishing gains slowed considerably but still do gain off the shores of Arete so it's reasonable to suggest you can safely train fishing up relatively easily. Im at 91.6 but it took an age to get here from 90.
I've stopped actively training fishing now as I haven't seen a need for it above this yet & am now focusing on the hunt!

Just a word of warning . . I have seen people fishing from the shore pull up some of our new Sea monsters. Could be a problem if you are AFK macroing with valuable 'UnBlessed' items on you or in your pack.

That's excellent sir Amairgen!
Presumably it's against the rules to afk train fishing anyway, right? So that's a fun way to reward such a risk ☺️
I'm definitely having fun learning about this wonderous skill!

As an update to this:
You can train to beyond GM fishing off the shores of Arete & in this land, the Sea Monsters do not spawn.

As an update to this: You can train to beyond GM fishing off the shores of Arete & in this land, the Sea Monsters do not spawn. *smiles* That then leaves a mystery as to the reason for the overnight fishermen's corpses on the Arete docks. Just saying . . random changes can be mean if you ar wearing or carrying special items.

*chuckles* Oops... That's great, I love it! I will certainly keep an eye out for corpses, perhaps I might find a healthy stash of supplies. Also, just as a reference, I was talking about the eastern shore, not the docks (I've never tried macroing off the docks because it just seemed a pain) - presumably it is the same there? Not sure when such changes were made but I checked a couple of weeks ago. --- p.s. I also never really AFK macro'd, but never had spawn on the eastern side.
