Keeping it old school I want to bring up the basics in class creation. Currently we all play some sort of hybrid or another because of the freedom we have using 1200 but we all share a simiular base.
What classes can we create? and how many can be achieved with a 500 skill base?
Mage Warrior Bard Tamer Crafter TreasureHunter Rogue Necromancer Paladin
Are what I can currently think of and would like other opnions as what your ideas are when creating your charactors.

So no one here likes class lables or what?
The beauty of UO is we can create any class/charactor our deviant minds can think of so please share some ideas for a basic non hybrid class.

Keeping it old school I want to bring up the basics in class creation. Currently we all play some sort of hybrid or another because of the freedom we have using 1200 but we all share a similar base. What classes can we create and how many can be achieved with a 500 skill base? Mage Warrior Bard Tamer Crafter Treasure Hunter Rogue Necromancer Paladin I think you mentioned all the 'non-hybrid' types so can't think of any more to add. From an old school perspective (back when I was a player myself) we had a 700 skill base and my characters were always a hybrid. I had (from memory) some variation of the following: 1) Mage/Archer/Healer (this was the main guy I played and was a support for a group hunt): Mage/Eval/Resist/Heal/Anatomy/Archery/Tactics 2) Mage/Archer/Fisherman: Fishing/Mage/Eval/Resist/Anatomy/Archery/Tactics 3) Mage/Bard (a ton of fun and challenge): Mage/Eval/Resist/Hiding/Music/Provoke/Discord 4) T-Hunter/Crawler: Mage/Hiding/Cartography/Mining/Lock Picking/Trap Removal/Detect Hidden 5) Basic Crafter: Blacksmith/Tinker/Tailor/Carpenter/Arms Lore/some Music and some Mage required for some crafts 6) Crafter/Resource Gatherer (because one character could not excel in all Crafting): Lumberjack/Fletcher/Mage/Scribe/Alchemist/Hiding Because crafting required two character slots I never got to play around with the Taming side of the game and for that matter . . never became a high end specialist because I wanted to dabble with as many aspects of the game as I could. This restriction was both a joy and a curse. A lot of thought was required and much of the game was spent tweaking skill points but at the same time there were aspects of the game I never got to explore. When UO-Traditions began . . we selected a 1200 Skill Cap for two reasons. First . . we believed an unlimited skill cap that most of the free shards use today would take away the fun/challenge that Template pondering brings. That was always a core and traditional part of the game. Second . . we believed that requiring two character slots to be able to excel in all the Crafting was a mistake by the original developers. We wanted our players to be able to experience every aspect of the game play that UO offered. The 1200 Skill Cap to this day does not feel like a perfect fit for my old school head but requiring two characters for complete crafting is still a mistake I cannot overcome. In a perfect world (speaking only for myself) we would have a skill cap in the 700 to 800 range while at the same time allowing one character slot to excel in the crafting/gathering. I have no idea how that would be possible and I know that a million others would disagree with me. I also know that every opinion is correct for its own reasons.

I also mainly made hybrid class builds often at times they were 9 skilled and still a 700 point cap. But the basics were still there either it being a Warrior with magery and eval or a mage with swords and tactics. the majority of the build was in 500 skill points and the 200 was anything from a secondary attack to added survive ability.
With the addition of Powerscrolls the hybrid classes in a 700 skill base got complicated and it didnt work as well prior to having powerscrolls so they raised the possible skill point cap to 730 i believe it was many moons ago so i don't exactly remember. But still classes and player diversity was much better. Were able to play any combination of skills and have it work it's all in how we play and our preference in how we go about doing so. but when one set of skills is outright better than any other you will tend to mainly use those.
Basically how Animal Taming was ridiculously over powered in every aspect of pvm and pvp in OSI's Ultima
The Leech aspect and damage output for warriors are the OP classes here. Basically able to completely replenish Health Mana and stam to full off every whirlwind. I'll continue with this i have to go for now..

I began my adventure on the Chesapeake shard as a crafter, UO Beta from day 1. Yes his name was Jethro and was a proud member of UBB (United Blacksmiths of Britannia) and a founding member of the player run town of Haven. I owned the large patio house right next to the lake. He was a straight crafter, Blacksmith, Tailor, Carpenter, Miner, Mage, Scribe, and Alchemist. My alternate was Jebadiah who was a mage\tamer. I had others as well for Barding and Warrior. I eventually ended up with a large tower near Britin. I also served as a Counselor for awhile. I probably would have played forever but I got BANNED, believe it or not. I was paying for my account and the 2 accounts for my sons on the same credit card. One of my sons was in a large PvP fight and yelled out "SPEED HACK". Someone reported him for actually using the speed hack and OSI staff just banned all 3 accounts. They wouldn't even talk with me about it. So I quit playing for a very long time, but ended up here! Now everyone knows my life story

This post took an odd turn but is seems the majority of players here have a decently extencive background in Animal Taming. and the Stealth Herder sounds like a ton of fun thank you for sharing that Crossbreed i never thought of that.
back to the main focus of this topic and that is classes and how we go about creating them. One of my favorite was a 8 skilled balanced warrior/mage hybrid most of the time with 0 Magic Resistance.
but with the 1200 points how do we creat a pure mage or warrior build? I'm currently droping anatomy archery and tactics for Wrestling Parry and Focus to better suit my desire to play a pure mage.
And to share a little about my times being banned from OSI. #1 I was reported numerous times for harassment and using foul language. -aparently emoting your pissing on someone was frownd upon- #2 i droped an F Bomb in the Bone Knight room and it upset some wackjob and he toled me not to curse and I tole him if he had an issue with my words he can use his mother^%!@#$ filter. #3 the true FU from osi.... I made it 5 years keeping under the radar. I had a 18x18 custom in Felucca Vetran rewards were in season and I seemly had it all. they some how figured out my idenity and wiped my accounts clean even tho I was totally reformed and had been an outstanding citizen they did not care. I bounced arround player shards finding my way to Angel Island on 2 seperate occassions where I shared the entire shard with one other player.
Alerig and I explored every aspect. we cleared every dungeon we became good friends and would converse outside the game.
Untill one day when that Gimp of a leader Adam Ant wipped the server and we completely lost everything and eventually lost contact.

Extra bonus skill for a better regen 99 necro for vampiric embrace 90 spirit speak for heal and necro spell boost 670 skill points for a pure warrior build really playable (if you check my template on the sampire guide it is my template base) and 859 points for the Ubber tank version. Thanks Yhaguen for breaking it down so simply. So your utilizing the bonus skill attribute gear on top of this base build?

Exactly. Davy Jones cloak or Manteau de Krak for +10 Anat & tactics to reach 100 (just because of the bonus damage calculation change at 100 points) I have only 70 to heal other comes from stuff, 50 in chiv same +10 stuff.
For 1200 points, I use resist spell, magery, ninjutsu and spellweaving.
Cheers, Yhaguen.
