Hi all!
I played UOT many years ago. Been on a UO hiatus but getting the nostalgia bug again and looking forward to exploring the server again!
I know the most important thing is to play builds that are fun for me, but I'd also like to not "waste" a bunch of time/effort/powerscrolls etc into a template that wont perform at max potential.
So......are there suggestions from experienced players on templates to best maximize the 6 character slots? I know I'll make a Sampire eventually but the gear grind is out of my reach currently. I'm sure I'll also make a "pure mage" template as I find them fun to play. Other than that, what's out there?
1. What should a crafter look like? Are there enough custom skill interactions that will necessitate more than one crafter in order to be "self sufficient"? 2. I get the impression players are able to add modifiers to armor/weapons here? I dont remember that from my last playthrough. Are there any guides I can read up on how that works? (skills required, resources acquisition, etc) 3. How viable is barding on this server? I enjoy provoking and discording....but if all the end game content is invulnerable to this I'm not sure I'll work the skill(s)
Not entirely looking for spoilers since that's part of the fun.......but just a guiding hand to set me down a good path. I've read up on the magus and sampire build guides.....just not sure how to spend my 6 slots wisely.
Thanks again!

I would definitely have to say that end game, the Sampire build would be the way to go here. Tamers can be powerful if you get lucky and find a 2k-3k health pet and you utilize the Pet Revitalize potions made from Ancient Alchemy. However, I prefer the Mage builds (it takes real skill to play a mage hehe ;P). I have a Bard/Necro/Spellweaving Mage and an Archer/Necro/Spellweaving Mage. With the Bardic arts you can obtain and utilize the Ancient Song Book that has some very useful spells and the provocation helps ward off some of the large MOB spawns that you may encounter. However, keep in mind that there are quite a few end game MOBs that you have no chance of provoking here, even with 120 Music/Provocation....sad and disappointing, I know. Regardless, you will find that the bardic arts come in handy. I guess I should forewarn you though about provocation here too....the fail to success rate at GM Music/Provo is horribly off balance. You wont begin to have a decent success rate until you reach 120 Music/Provocation and that success rate depends greatly on the use of a Slayer instrument. I can't begin to tell you how many times I wanted to drop Music/Provo in the beginning because of this. Hang in there because it gets better once you reach 120/120, but depending on your patience level you may still think the success to fail rate is still bad (I feel this way myself sometimes). I would suggest running a Mage first because with a 100% LRC suit, you can macro this template up fairly quick with little to no gold expenditure. Once you are strong enough, start doing the Challenge Tower quest daily which can be found in the Luna Gate House right outside the city of Luna. Valuable artifact gear drops can be obtained from killing the bosses on each level. If I can be of any assistance with answering your questions or if you need anything in game feel free to reach out when you see me online (if I'm not macroing lol). Welcome back and I hope you stick around for all that Traditions has to offer!
My Characters are:
Lucian Kaine
Bali Raj
Cyrus Quixs
Elric O'Brien
Dra'Elin Spade

Great insights there. Currently macroing an archer/bard as my start character.
Archery 120 Tactics 120 Chivalry 100 Healing 100 Anatomy 100 Resist 100 Music 120 Provoke 120 Necromancy 100 Sprit Speak 120 Magery 100
Once I'm able to obtain soulstones and better gear, I'll probably morph this character into a Sampire. Are soulstones vet rewards here?
Thanks again!

Not a bad start. Personally I would drop Healing for Evaluating Intelligence. I would rather the spell damage increase from the Eval over the healing. I would also max my Magery to 120 because I'm pretty sure you need 120 to use the Medeis Incantatrix spellbook. There are a few different ways you can get around having healing in your template, at least for a character in which most of your combat is going to be from a distance.
1.) You can have life leech spellcrafted by a crafter onto your bow.
2.) There are also a number of spells from different special spellbooks here that heal massive amounts of life, even when poisoned.
3.) Lets also not forget potions for health regen. Revitalize potions crafted by an Alchemist using Ancient Alchemy regenerate health to max life, even if poisoned.
-Cheers!
Long Live Traditions!

Heyas, Lucian Kaine has given you some great information here, nothing I could refute. But a couple extra things that could interest you. When Spellweaving you'll always be granted a tier 5 arcane focus from Arcane Circle, this makes the spells much more powerful. We have a few added extra spellbooks that have some neat spells in them, the previously mentioned Medeis Incantatrix, Ancient Necromancy Incantations, and Elven Book of Incantations for elves that I believe scales off Spellweaving & Hiding. And as for Soulstones, you get them from a quest here. The template you listed looks fine to me, and will for sure get you going Hope you enjoy your time here bud.
