Just some general thoughts . .
You can buy or craft some excellent gear/jewelry to which you can (Spellcraft) add properties like: 'Mana Regen' 'Lower Mana Cost' 'Lower Reagent Cost' 'Spell Damage Increase'
. . . so maybe you do not need to use 100 points for Meditation and another 100 points for Eval Int.
You may know that Bards can do a quest for the Bard Song Book but did you know that Legendary Mages can do a quest for a special spell book? Some of those are very handy.
Also . . if you get a Ninjitsu book you can eventually cast the ninja Mirror Image spell to get a follower that will fight for you and keep enemies busy while you do your thing. *smiles*

as a bard/mage/tamer would the mirror image be worth it?

as a bard/mage/tamer would the mirror image be worth it? Not a lot (depends on play style) but if you get into a crowd the Mirror can sometimes buy you some time and only needs 80 skill to be useful. I just threw that one out as a possible option. There could be other handy things you could go for if you did not need meditation and Eval Int. Dropping those also lets you take Taming etc up to 120.

Not sure 120 taming is needed. So far I've only seen pets up to a 111.1 requirement but taming said creature isn't easy even at 120 skill. I have 115 lore and rarely will my pets refuse to stop attacking. But honestly at that point I start thinking more about self preservation. Not sure how tied to Peacemaking you are but all you really need is Provoke to work crowd control. that could open up 120+ skill points.
As for Ninjitsu you get a lot of stealth mobility so paired with a pet leash you can get to your farming location with ease. the Mirror will require control slots. "not usable with some pets" One of my favorite builds had archery hiding magery and 40 med. I was no where as effective as the provoke tamers but I had fun. Currently using a 120 necro 115 spirit build for the heal-over-time and heal-threw-poison Ancient Necromancy Spells.

Hi everyone,
I used to play here some time ago and I always loved being a tamer. I still have my pets since that time I played, that was 3 years ago. Now I've got a taste to jump back to check the new quests, dungeons, mobs, tower, everything. I am reading through all the new arties, quest rewards and stuff and I am wondering... is there actually any way how to improve my pets? There are many new weapons, armors, spellbooks added to match the strenght of a new mobs, but since animals are tamer's weapon and also armor, I am wondering what should I farm or hunt for to improve my old pets :-) Still got my Evo Dragon/Unicorn, Exalted Sphynx, Charger, Wyrms and Greater Drags. Could you guys give me a hint where to hunt for something to improve them or if there's something new to catch? =))
I am happy to see you all around playing and having fun! :-)

Welcome back Andariel. I'm not sure how much has changed with pets but I do know that if it has less than 2000 health it won't be much use. once your exalted reaches level 3 that's it fineto no mass el strongo. I've found some real buff tameables on Tartarus Drakes with 1500 health W Wyrm " 1800 S Wyrm " 2200 Greater drags seems to loose 25-45% of all stats once tamed so you'll want to find one that's close to or over 3000 health Nightmares and Ice Steeds with close to and over 1000 health make an excelent sidearm for the 6 slot Shadow Wyrms. It's hard out there for a pimp when your main line of defence drops like a mongbat. Freezing your controll slots preventing you to use summons and leaving all that agro to fall on your shoulders.
