Okay . . . In spite of the fact that they do not deserve it . . Pirates on the open see have now been given some 'love'.
If you run into them be sure to loot the Pirate Captain (the one with the captain's hat) as soon after his death as possible. It is suggested you kill him last because the pirate ship will go down with the Pirate Captain. He and his nasty mates will float on the surface for you for a while so you can loot them. There is a good chance of finding a pirate treasure chest from a Pirate Captain on the captains corpse.
Happy Hunting and Good Luck

Those captain chests are nice! Good update. Now when I see pirates, I will stop and fight them instead of out maneuvering and sailing off.

I've been spending about 2-2 1/2 hours the past few evenings sailing looking for Krakens (for nets) and pirates. I've run in to dozens and dozens of Krakens, only 2 sets of Pirates. I've been sailing around Bucs Den on Trammel and Tartarus and they seem to want to avoid me (for obvious reasons). Is there an area they tend to frequent more than others?
I've also seen a bunch of Sea Horses; those would be really neat to be able to tame and ride on the oceans instead of a ship...

If Davy Jones locker quest is anything to go by i`d say anywhere between the serpent pillar and Dagger isle would be a good place to hunt for pirate ships.
