Hi, I have been having a great time on the island of Cozumel so far this year. Diving, sunshine, cerveza, food and music are all as good as ever here. Here's a photo I took of a Hawksbill Turtle competing with a Triggerfish for lunch taken on the edge of Cedral wall above the abyss.

Good lord what's your megapixels??? That came out absolutely beautiful. It's almost as if that Trigger Fish is posing for the shot.

Fantastic shot! The detail is just incredible . . . like we're right there in the water ourselves :-)
Glad to hear you're having a fab time and scaring the fish accordingly

Okay . . . another photo for something different. Here we are crawling through Devil's Throat in Punta Sur reef at a depth of 128 feet. This is an advanced dive and not for the 'new' or faint of heart.

Is that a cave?
Do they have dive caves in Cozumel?

They certainly do have caves (many of them) but most have more than one entrance/exit.

Sorry . . . not the best quality. This is a clip from a GoPro video shot in excitement while fighting the current. A school of five Eagle Rays stream past us in a very strong current at 80 feet down on the top of a wall. These beauties are not seen on every dive and even then you are lucky to see just one.

I saw this clip on Insta. They're so beautiful!
They glide through the water like birds soar through the air :-)

Yes they do. It was a magic moment. We were hiding behind a giant barrel sponge and peaking over the top as they approached us and glided by.

Well I have an interesting dilemma.
I am scheduled to fly home to Canada from Cancun Mexico on March 29th. The Canadian government is now saying all Canadians should return home as soon as possible because some flights will be cancelled and many airports will be closed due to the corona virus. They say they will announce which airports will remain open later this week. They are also saying that as soon as Canadians return from a foreign country they should immediately self isolate themselves for 14 days.
My hometown airport is a small one so it will likely be closed. Even if it does not close it is difficult to decide how to arrange a different flight and date. My airline only travels to my home town on Fridays or Sundays. I went on line to see if I could change my March 29th flight to Friday March 20th but their website will not allow me to make the change online. It says I should phone them and leave a message with my phone number. They then say the expected wait time for a return call is 2,244.5 hours.
I could forget about getting a refund and simply try to book onto the March 20th flight to my home but by March 20th the government will probably have closed the airport in my home town.
If I choose a major airport like Vancouver or Toronto then I am not sure how I immediately self isolate in those cities for 14 days?
If I cannot get home at all then I have to think about where to stay. The condo I am renting in Mexico is rented out to a Mexican family for next month. I would have to start looking fast for alternative accommodation here in Mexico.
The crazy part of all this is . . the island of Cozumel (with all cruise ships suspended and zero cases of the virus) is probably the safest place I could be.
Interesting indeed.

Get your diving gear back on & stay there. That's what i'd be doing Hope you manage to sort it though & stay safe! <3 edit: Just think, it could always be worse - you could be here in the UK with Boris Johnson for your PM... You fancy adopting me?

From what I hear things are a bit crazy at home while they are pleasant, calm and fun here. So . . we will sit back and wait to find out which airports will be closed and which will remain open. After that we can plan our return path or if lucky leave plans as they are.
I hear you about Boris but my place is already full of Americans fleeing Donnie Tweetster.

Scenario 1 Find a nice place away from people and extend your vacation. just stock up because stores are sold out of everything over here..
Scenario 2 Escape the Island at all costs and get back to your small town. being trapped in an island with no supplies would not be good because the natives will eat you first.
